Question:
I need to get a rain coat. Does anyone have any recommendations/advice about this? Where can i get a good deal?
Answer:
If you're a size small in Barbour (probably a 36-39R) this is a good deal. There's a 30% off code on the STP coupon thread:

There are at least a few threads on trench coats.
Answer:
I don't really like a mac with a belt....
seem like not a bird not a fish to me... ( a fish with feathers ? )
The very basics are
* a plain simple knee lenght SB macintosh unbelted for normal rain
* a DB full lenght trench with all the buttons, belts and loops for heavy rain.
the very basic color is british khaki.
the very basic material is tight 100% cotton gabardine.
If it rains a lot, like it happens here, get them in many colors so you can match your outfits, navy, beige, olive, black etc...

I'm a big fan of Allegri.
Answer:
I suggest a Loro Piana Storm System trench.
If low price is most important, then you might try H&M, Banana Republic, Zara, etc. Also, there are the discounters K&G, outlet malls, etc.
Answer:
If, as in your title, you are considering one coat to do both, we have a Normandy and Monroe in the clearance section on our website. Black Cashmere/wool on one side, Loro Piano "Storm System" wool/nylon twill on the other.

Then click on clearance, then outerwear.

Answer:
why not the original barbour jacket?
Answer:
Thank you all for your helpful replies. Gruner and Co. makes a nice khaki DB trench coat for the Joseph Abboud label, and sells them to Lord and Taylor. I picked one up today for about $250 (on sale, regularly $425). (One day, when my kids are out of private school and done with college and my mortgage is paid off, I'll get myself that $900 Burberry.)
