Vass shoe sizing

Question:
I've decided to try to take another shot at ordering directly from the Vass shop in Budapest (while I'm still living in Australia). As I have no way that I know of to try on actual Vass shoes, I thought I'd solicit help here.
I am no aportnoy, so I don't know my size in every last of every other high-end maker in the world. Quite the opposite. I generally wear between 11 - 11.5 US. In terms of brands, I have Zegna Couture and Tod's in size 11 and Ferragamo Studio Line in size 11.5. I also recently tried on some Santoni FAMs that seemed to fit well in a size 11 (don't know the last).
I'm interested in both the F and U last sizing. Can anyone provide a little guidance to help inform the gamble I'm hoping to take?
Answer:
as tedious as it is, you need to go to some shops and try on some more shoes. Try to hit Allen Edmonds, Ferragamo possibly Tramezza, etc.
Answer:
I would suggest that you are probably 44.5 on the U last and 44 on the F. Good luck , enjoy and share pictures.:slayer:
Answer:
I'd agree the U seems about a 1/2 size up from traditional size for me.
Answer:
to throw a wrench in the calculations. Vass fit is highly dependent on foot shape. I wear a 43.5 in both the U and F lasts.. though I am a solid D US width. I wear a 10 D in AE, 9.5/10 E in EG, 9E in C&J 8.5 or 9 IT in Santoni FAM (depending on model), 9E or 9.5E in Lobb depending on last....
Having said that, I'd order a 44.5 from Vass in your case, unless you have markedly narrow feet.
Answer:
Thanks so much guys! If all goes well, I'll definitely post pics.
Answer:
Sounds like you are a UK size 10.5. That means that on the U last, you would take a 44.5 if you have a narrow foot (B width,) 45 for narrow-to-medium foot (US C width,) or 45.5 for a medium to wide foot (US D or E width.) I would probably recommend a size 45 on the F last.
Answer:

I hope this is your recommendation for F , if he falls in the US D or E range .
However, a UK 10.5 is analogous to a 11 D US and I would say a 45 is the maximum you should go if you are an 11.
As I am a 10 D and a 44 is the maximum I would go; a 45.5 would I be afraid, to Large for a 11D foot.
Vass U last from my experience sizes strangely due to the high instep area.
It sizes normally at the base (I would be a 44 due to the circumference size of the base) but due to the high instep ( i have normal to slightly lower arches) I have to size down to a 43.5 or else the throat area creates space around my ankles and looks a bit sloppy.
The U last requires one to have very hight arches.
It is a pretty shoe in concept/visibly , but not practical for lower arched persons like me.
Answer:
Shoe, I don't think you are very correct on shoe sizing. A 10.5 UK is a 11.5 US and analagous, under normal circumstances, to a 44.5 EU.
If you are a 10D US, your EU size would be 43 according to the standard measures.
Answer:

OP says he wears a US 11 to 11.5. He is better off ordering an 11.5, as a shoe that is a little big is a whole lot better than one that is a little small.
Also keep in mind that one French/Euro size increment does not equal one UK or US size increment. A lot of people convert sizes this way, including people in the industry, and it causes problems once you get into the larger sizes. For instance, on the Vass U last, a size 47.5 fits a US size 13.
Answer:
If you had used my preferred shoe size converter then you would all have had your US size correctly converted to the European size.

US 13 = 47.5
US 10 = 43.3 (ie 43 for a snug fit, 43.5 for a looser fit)
Answer:
i understand under all standard euro sizing 10D is equivalent to a 43.
but according to Vass U last sizing, 43 is NOT a 10D. it is more like a 9-9.5 D US.
dokelroth, have you tried on a U last? a their '43' does not fit a 10D.
Answer:
Is this true for U last bals or only bluchers? I've all but given up on finding oxfords that don't have a one inch gap at the top of the laces. This might be a possible solution. Is this true as well of the F last?
Answer:
im not referring to the gap between eyelets when laced. that is a seperate phenomenon.
i was referring to the fact that the U last is so built high up on its instep, people with lower insteps when wearing the U last will have spacing around the ankles due to the fact that our instep does not fill that space up.
Answer:
As a point reference I wear US 10.5D, U last in 44 and F in 43.5 fit me fine. I'd listen to A Harris, he has the most experience in Vass size fittings.
