Question:
Hello ,
My wife and I are going to two weddings before the end of the year. The first will be in Cape Cod, Ma. in late September and the second in Mexico (not sure of the name of the specific location) in early November. I would like to purchase a quality suit to wear on both occasions. I would like to invest in a high quality suit, but not spend a mint in doing so. I think I would like something in the range of $900- $1500 in cost. Also, not sure if this is a pertinent question, but is there a more preferable cut, or button number, for bow tie suit wearers? I will be wearing a bow most of the time when I wear this new suit. Color suggestions are welcomed as well.
Thanks for all of your help.
Answer:
Here's some basic advice:
1. Darker colors are more formal. Navy and charcoal are extremely versatile.
2. There are lots of good suits at your price point--Canali and Corneliani come to mind immediately as canvassed, high quality garments. Do you have access to a good menswear store or high end department store? It really helps to try on a bunch of different suits and see what style, cut, etc. looks best.
3. Good alterations will make any suit look infinitely better. Get a good tailor and pay attention to fit.

Welcome to the forum, from another new guy.
Before I answer, do you happen to live in the Boston area (Cape Cod wedding and all)?
Answer:
I live in the Cleveland, Ohio area and that is part of the problem because of the paucity of quality men's stores.
Answer:
If you know your size, you could use mail order (e.g., Sierra Trading Post, which has a great return policy).
If all else fails you, a well-fitting Brooks Brothers suit will look sharp.
You might post a note on Ask Andy about Clothes. Folks there might know some good shops and tailors in your area.
Answer:
+1 on Brooks Brothers
Answer:
I bought a suit a month ago at Saks that would fit your bill perfectly (though you can't have it, lol): Zegna's traveler line (you're taking this on the road a lot), brown (dark, but nice for summer because it's not too dark and part silk), and it's a three button (which I think is better for bow tie wearers because it goes up higher).
Answer:
Thanks guys,
I think I will give Brooks Brothers a try.
