Weird Selling Behaviour

Question:
Today I went into a little menswear shop for the first time, just to look around.
Most of what they had was rubbish, but they had a couple of great bargains on their tie sale table - about $100 of a small number of Altea and Borrelli ties. Totally out of place with the rest of their low-end stuff; I have no idea what Borrelli was doing there on sale. Needless to say, I grabbed some.
So, you'd agree, I'm likely to be a pretty happy customer ready to come back. And I was. Until he pulled this weird stunt on me. He'd asked me about this and that and I'd said I wasn't interested. He asked me if I was interested in some socks and I said no. He then said, "Well that's your bad luck because they would have been free. You have to be quick".
Now why would you pull a little stunt like that and piss off a satisfied customer? What possible purpose did he think it would serve?
Answer:
Maybe it was a bad joke
Answer:
A bad joke ,that's it....
Maybe a stand-up comedian saturday's job...
Answer:
Australian humour perhaps. Sounds like he was confusing irony with ironing.
Answer:
I hope you're not talking about Declic, which would mean that the red polka dot Borrelli tie I've been eyeing off for the last year is finally on sale and somebody might have already bought it.
:plain:
Answer:
Yeah that was pretty weird of him... almost like sour grapes (I doubt it ever would have been free, no matter what your reply!)
It's unfortunate when salespeople ruin stores for customers... to the extent that otherwise satisfied customers won't even return to certain stores because of a certain salesperson. There's a menswear shop in Reston Town Center, Virginia -- nice stuff, but every time I go in there this over-the-top ghetto saleslady tries to force-sell me everything in the store... I want to ask her, "Why don't you just wear a t-shirt that says, 'If I don't get my commission, my six kids will go hungry and I won't be able to make the payment on our room at the long-term low-budget motel we be stayin' at!'"
Answer:
I have to assume that he felt you were being impatient while he was just trying to do his job, so he through that in as a little (snide, not serious) jab. But that's pure inference, since I wasn't there and have only your account to go by.
Answer:
The all commission thing is not a great idea....
The salesperson is losing its customer service purpose....They're here to assist and advice us and not trying to push some forced sales on us...
I do think that it is any short term sales enhancer system is counter-productive in many occasions because an happy customer is always likely to come back and spend more...
Louis Vuitton for example does not have a commission system and their customer service is perfect....
I do hate being pushed around and i do hate even more the idea of being pushed to buy something...
Answer:
I don't think they profit a lot from those ties, and essentially if they were loss leaders he was losing money in order to draw in customers to bigger items. Maybe that is why he was bitter? He did seem like a jerk though.
Answer:
That is strange. Were his eyes bloodshot, perchance?:bounce2:
Answer:
Since when are socks bigger items than ties?
I agree, he was never going to give anything for free.
Answer:
Not Declic. It's Acumen in SKR. They will still have a few Alteas, but I think I got the last cheap Borrelli. He still has a couple at $90, if that grabs you.
Answer:
The guy sounds like a real prick. Take your ties and run.
Answer:
Sounds rather crazy.
Answer:
Maybe they were giving away Pantherella socks.
