Question:
Wife and I did some major damage today, although I fared a little better than she did. She got some of her favorite jeans and some tops at Nordstrom, while I first only found a sportshirt for jeans. Then hit Neiman's where I got an Oxxford muted-plaid sportjacket for an extra 25%, a Zegna shirt, Zegna slacks to coordinate with the jacket and two ties-- Mimi Fong and a Charvet.
Next to BB (Dallas, West Village)-- she got a suit with jacket, skirt and slacks. I got a couple of sweaters, 3 slacks, socks.
Then to another Nordstrom (Dallas Galleria, which had a larger selection than first stop at Northpark)-- some Robert Talbott shirts, 4 best-in-class-ties, merino polo, cashmere sweater and two pair of Ferragamo loafers (not Tramezzas but just the rubber-soled line-- perfect for covering events where I need to be somewhat dressy but need an all-day-on-my-feet shoe).
Finally to Galleria Dallas where, despite being 3 pm, got the extra 15% on a Golden Fleece suit, bringing a GF suit down to $847. BB even alters GF for free regardless of whether it is on sale.
Add that to my Isaia jacket from Nitr-o for Chanukah present, and I'm set for a very long time...
Will post some photos of the Oxxford when I get it back. I'm really impressed lately at how Oxxford is producing some much more trendy jackets.
Ned
Answer:
Brooks Brothers - couple of polos (used a gift card from co-workers birthday)
Nordstrom - Ecco Arlanda Apron oxfords
Thomas Pink - a dress shirt
Charles Tyrwhitt - a dress shirt and a sport (casual) shirt
Ralph Lauren - 2 polos and 2 RLX golf polos
Everything was bought online but the shoes. All in all it was about $450 for everything give or take a little bit. I think I made out alright...
Answer:
Nice haul Ned. I ended up taking back more than I took home today. I went to Marios, Barneys, Nordstrom, Olsens, Blackbird, Kuhlman, Filson, Le Frock, Butch Blum and even David Lawrence...even...Ian(most of the hotspots for menswear in Seattle except for the last two) but went home with nothing. Now I am at home on the net with you guys in one window and a bunch of e-stores in the others.
Answer:
I picked up a Jil suit at Barney's Dallas for a little over 500. First Jil suit and the cut is absolutely perfect for me.
Answer:
i was hoping to pick up some Robert Talbot best in class 7 folds at Nordstrom today, but they arent discounted enough yet. although i did not really check if they were the 7 fold as the price display dissuaded me from coming any closer.
lot of ferragamo tramezza captoe medallion derbies in auburn and black , however, i shall wait till end of sale to see if they get further reduced to 50% off.

Picked up a charcoal gray glen plaid 2 button Armani Collezioni sportcoat, a couple of pairs of RL Polo flat front chinos, and some RL Polo shirts... Visited the tailor for my first fitting on the bespoke navy pinstripe suit I comissioned... Put a tie on hold...
Didn't have time to pick out shoes...
Answer:
Guys ,it is always a real pleasure to pick-up overpriced bargains...
I will do the same thing at harrods with Brioni and Charvet shirts...
Answer:
I devastated J.Press, buying three shirts. The entire sales staff thanked me and then offered to help me carry the packages to my waiting car. I was too sheepish to demur, but they were very embarrassed when we got outside and I told them I didn't really have a car and had just walked a few blocks from my office.
Answer:
A couple of RLPL ties and two RLPL suits (both for about 30% of retail).
Answer:
I did okay:
Paul Stuart Phineas overcoat $300 down from $1100
Nicer Italian RL Polo light grey flat front wool trousers
Brooks Brothers windowpane flannel pyjamas
Brooks Brothers seersucker robe
Royall Mandarin after shave for grandfather
Marimekko wrapping paper from Crate & Barrel
But I lost my Battistoni scarf when I was out shopping. Huge bummer...
Answer:
chorse, hope you'll post photos of your Paul Stuart coat, i'm interested to see the phineas stuff. quite a deal!
nsoltz, hope you enjoy your oxxford jacket. Here's the one I bought recently, got a simply incredible deal on this one, which retails for about $2k-- does yours have double vents, also? I've found them a little harder to find, but not as hard as it used to be.
Answer:
Perhaps this is silly, but do you know what that string on the shoulders and down the sides is there for? I see it on new suits all the time but i always forget to ask.
Answer:
I was initially quite proud of the restraint I showed. I drove 3 hours to Dallas and bought a pair of Zanella Platinum trousers at NMLC, then passed up a tan Jil Sander cashmere turtleneck at Barneys and 3 pairs of trousers at NM in Northpark Mall (one pair of black-whited checked Brioni trousers that I _really_ wanted, a pair of navy Zanella microcords, and a pair of wool/linen Zegna that were almost silver). I may return when prices are cut further and hope things are still there. I also discovered that the NM in Northpark now carries the John Lobb Sutton, one of the 2 JL shoes that I covet, but again I showed restraint. It sucks to be a 40L, as NM had exactly _one_ jacket in my size, a putrid-looking Burberry. Then I got home and found that Bullock & Jones is having an on-line sale. Most of what I ordered may go back because of fit, but Oh My....3 sweaters and 5 shirts are on their way.
Guys, I was a bit rushed yesterday because I had to drive home for my brother's birthday dinner, but we should have a Dallas get-together sometime. Maybe when I hit the January sales. NM is supposedly having Last Call on January 14. And I didn't have time to hit the Galleria or the Talbott store in Highland Park Village.
Answer:
yeah-- it's basting thread, which apparently is on the shoulders for show more than anything else (I've learnded from other members that the shoulders are not in any danger of stretching or anything like that while waiting to be purchased). on the sleeves, of course, it actually has a function until buttons and buttonholes are added.
