Question:

What do people think about the December 21, 2007 entry? The comments on the blog are all over the place and I wanted to get a more narrowed point of view and I figure this place would provide it.
I am new to here so don't blast me for starting this forum. Thanks.
Answer:
I believe the fellow pictured posts on the Fedora Lounge. Like a lot of FL devotees, he's very good at pulling off a certain vintage look. Viewed from today's perspective it either comes off as very retro, very stylised or incredibly innovative depending on how aware one is of the style's history.
I like the look a lot - it's coherent, cheeky and fun. Would I wear something so decidedly out of its time to work or out to dinner? No, probably not. But if he does, and it works for him, great.
Which bits do YOU like about the look? Many elements can be worked into a modern outfit but part of its charm is just how stylised - how movie - a look it is.
Answer:
He is certainly the best dressed of the Fedora Lounge crew. I think he pulls it off pretty well.
Answer:
I do believe it's the least costume-y of what tends to be a rather costume-like crew. The Fedora Lounge's esthetic doesn't lend itself well to irony as say, other dated looks--like '70s things--does.
Answer:
I like it, except maybe the shoes.
Answer:
It's a little costumey for me. I mean, it looks exactly like someone from a early 20th century Shanghai movie would wear. But, if he feels comfortable in it...why not.
Answer:
Looks too much like he`s trying to copy a vintage look, or dress like the past to me. Vintage is cool, but I think it`s better if you do it in a modern way.
Answer:
At first glance in gq i thought the outfit was hot. But wen i looked closer i realized i HATE his sweater. I feel like it doesnt fit with everything else. Maybe a grey merino wool would be better suited
Answer:
Looks costumey to me, I don't understand this kind of look
Answer:
I could list my complaints, but why bother? On the whole, he is better dressed than I am.
Answer:
I wonder if his girlfriend dresses like a Flapper.
Answer:
his shoes remind me of a clown.
Answer:
His style might not be mine, but, from what I've seen, he gets a lot of stuff right. I've seen many, many vintage enthusiasts who wear it much less well than he does. Bear in mind, he's pretty young, too, and yet he has a better understanding of fit than many guys twice his age.
I really like his sweater.
Answer:
If he removed the hat he would look good. With the hat it's costumey.
Answer:
agreed, lose the absurd hat and he looks good
